RK Wants YOU – to support youth baseball!
In four years, the Celebrity Softball Jam has raised more than $130,000 for seven local youth baseball and softball groups: the Miracle League at Town & Country (Austin), Miracle League of San Antonio, South Austin Little League, Balcones Little League, Montopolis Little League, Del Valle Little League and RBI Austin. The event — through band members, volunteers and corporate sponsors — also has funded time and materials to refurbish and repair fields and facilities, making them safer for players and spectators.
This year the Reckless Kelly Youth Foundation is taking on its biggest project ever. Through a partnership with the Greater East Austin Youth Association, RBI Austin, the City of Austin and Boone Action Turf, we are going to completely renovate Mabson Field with a full synthetic playing surface. Mabson is a youth baseball/softball field located in the heart of one of the most under-resourced neighborhoods in Austin. 97% of families in the area surrounding the field are considered economically disadvantaged and over half are single-parent homes.
The total project cost is roughly $220,000.
Last month we received great news from Major League Baseball. They have agreed to provide $110,000 of matching funds through their “Baseball Tomorrow Fund.” The key here is that these are “matching” funds, meaning we need to come up with the other $110K.
